We're Back! Resident Highlight: Staying Connected Through FaceTime

It's been a little while since our last update, and we wanted to start by saying thank you for your continued support and patience. Over the past few months, our team has been busy continuing our work at senior centers, welcoming new volunteers, and helping residents build confidence with technology one session at a time.

As we move forward, we are excited to continue sharing more updates, resident highlights, and moments from our sessions. We have so many meaningful experiences and accomplishments to share, and we can't wait to bring everyone with us.

One of our residence recently set a goal of becoming more comfortable using FaceTime to communicate with her children and grandchildren. While she had occasionally answered calls with assistance in the past, she felt uncertain and wanted to call her grandchildren and children and see there faces. She said notifications would sometimes disappear before she could answer, and starting a video call herself seemed intimidating.

Over a couple sessions, we worked through the basics together. We practice answering and making calls, locating recent contacts, adjusting audio settings, and understanding what different buttons and icons meant.

Eventually, she got the hang of everything and came back last week to update us that she now regularly uses FaceTime to stay connected with her family, whether that is checking in with her children, hearing about her granddaughter's latest activities, or simply sharing moments that otherwise would have been missed. She said being able to see there faces rather than just hearing voices has made me feel closer with them.

Experiences like these remidn su that technology eduction si more than learning ot use an app but to improve mental health, cognition, reduce social isolation, and maintian important connections.
